NEW BRUNSWICK MERIT AWARD PRESENTATIONS

The New Brunswick Merit Awards recognize contributions and efforts of outstanding citizens in the community in six fields of endeavours: Arts & Culture; Business; Community Leadership; Environment; Sport, Recreation and Active Living; and Volunteer Service.                  

Arts & Culture - An individual who has contributed to the support, encouragement and development of arts and culture in the community with performing arts.

Shelby Receiving her AwardSHELBY MURRAY is a remarkable young lady with an enormous amount of talent. For those of you who don’t know her, Shelby is a self taught pianist who is always ready and willing to play. You can sometimes see or hear her play at the Irving Big Stop. You can name off a She volunteers for numerous events like the Terry Fox Run and jam session and has graciously volunteered to play for us on Sunday at the park.

Business - A business that demonstrated community support through job creation, quality service, monetary contributions, or with gift/services in kind toward the development and growth of their community.

COLPITTS WOODWORKERS LTD have been serving Salisbury for over 70 years and have been big supporters of the Community.

 

 

 

Community Leadership - An individual who demonstrates leadership through unselfish contributions to community organizations.

JIM LEWIS worked tirelessly with various individuals and groups to see the Salisbury Youth Park become a reality.

 

 

Environment - An individual, organization or business that has made a significant contribution to protecting the environment and/or actively promoted public awareness.

Although a relatively new management, HORSMAN RECYCLING has undergone changes to continue and promote recycling awareness.

 

 

Sport & Recreation (Active Living) - An individual or team that has excelled in the area of competition or sportsmanship; or one individual or organization that promotes or facilitates the development of recreation or active living in their community.

Rose Magee Receiving Her Award

ROSE MAGEE volunteers with numerous things in the community. She is the main contact person for the Salisbury & District Recreation Council who give area youth the opportunity to learn how to play team sports and develop good sportsmanship and look after the Youth Park. She coaches many youth teams including basketball and volleyball and has been involved with the Salisbury Tae Kwon Do Club

 

Volunteer Service - An individual for his or her charitable contribution to their community through volunteer service efforts.

Sterling Constantine Receiving His AwardSTERLING CONSTANTINE has been very active for many years with the Salisbury Lions Club. You will see him at the pancake breakfasts and auctioneering at their annual auction. His sauerkraut is the highlight of the night! Sterling served twelve years on Village Council and volunteers with the Albert County Food Bank, Mount Eagle Cemetery, Cancer Society, Cancer Relay, and Terry Fox Run to name a few. He is always helping others with odd jobs and you can sometimes hear him sing with the Men’s Choir.

 

MAYOR’S AWARD PRESENTATION

The Mayor’s Award is designed to recognize and reinforce youth and youth leaders whose outstanding achievements and contributions encourage endeavour that serve in some way to improve the quality of our life together in our community.

                       MayTerri Surette Accepting Mayor's Awardor’s Award for Youth was awarded to TERRI SURETTE. Terri is a very talented seventeen year old musician who gives of herself endlessly and tirelessly for worthwhile project and fundraising events. She has entertained for cancer telethons and fundraisers, Crisis Pregnancy Centre, MS, Ileitis and Colitis, Alzheimer, Celiac Disease, Christmas Daddies, and Diabetes, to name a few. She has also help to raise money for Safe Grad in several schools and for school equipment. She has played at many, many seniors homes, for Veterans, and for those in hospitals as well as various community events. Terri has won many awards and Provincial and Canadian Championships. This fall, Terri is entering the University of British Columbia to study towards a Bachelor of Music. We wish her the best of luck!
